3 Amazing Roofing Advancements

Wood shingles of old roofs have since advanced in many ways. You’ll find many of them solving problems that used to be considered unavoidable. There are three current advancements in particular that roofing companies are beginning to make for a growing number of homeowners.

1. Solar Shingles

Sunlight and heat are a big problem for any roof. Unless you have good insulation and maintenance, you might be compromising your internal HVAC system. Your roof is also likely to suffer from higher temperatures.

To compensate, modern roof installations now install solar shingles. These are small solar panels that can convert sunlight into electricity. These shingles solve the issue of hot roofs and higher cooling costs at the same time. They are easy to install and tough enough to withstand the elements.

2. Fireproof Roofing

Fireproofing can be tough for some roof materials. Ordinary shingles like wood and asphalt are flammable. An unfortunate blaze brought about by a variety of issues can easily burn through asphalt and wood shingles and even spread to other areas.

That’s why many modern roofs have good fireproofing properties. Modern day solutions like metal are certified with a class A rating. This means it can handle fire, or at least considerably slow down the spread of flames.

3. Cool Roof Technology

Cool roofing has been a highly debated issue among companies and homeowners. The old method involved relying on the right materials, but some roofs still become hot even with insulation.

The biggest shocker is that this may take an easy fix. When you get a roof replacement, simply choose lighter colors with heat-resistant properties. The composition of the coating can be made of insulators like rubber or acrylic. Meanwhile, light colors reflect solar heat while dark colors absorb them.

Our team at Blue Sky Roofing has spent years in the business, helping homeowners and property owners get the right roofing technology for their needs. Call us today at (512) 649-8244 to learn more about our work. We offer our services in Oklahoma City and other surrounding areas.
